Cancer Exercise Classes

The Cancer Class provides an opportunity for individuals to stay active during
or after their cancer treatment. These classes are based on research that
shows resistance, and aerobic exercise can produce positive outcomes both
physically and pyschologically. Exercising is important for maintaining or
enhancing your physical fitness, relieving mental distress and improve your
quality of life. It also produces cancer fighting hormones and immune cells.
These classes are a vital part of the recovery process, focusing on the physical
and emotional challenges that can arise due to a Cancer diagnosis.

Matwork Pilates Classes

These classes are led by one of our exercise physiologists or
physiotherapists. Pilates involves moving your body through precise ranges
of motion. It focuses on lengthening, strengthening and stretching major
muscle groups. Each exercise has a prescribed placement, rhythm and
breathing pattern. Matwork pilates places significance on strengthening
core muscles, which are crucial for stabilising the body and maintaining
good posture. These sessions aim to improve core stability, strength,
flexibility, balance and breathing with a specific focus on motor control
issues that may be contributing to pain.

Strong and Lean

Strong and Lean classes promote early intervention to improve strength,
fitness and balance. Classes are lead by physiotherapists and exercise
physiologists and incorporate both cardio and strength training. These
classes work on promoting strength and resistance training that is
tailored to your needs. These classes will get your heart rate up and are
suitable for all ages and abilities. Most of our clients join these classes as a
away of managing long term injuries and progression of their treatment.

Functional Fitness

A functional fitness class is a type of workout that focuses on exercises
designed to improve your ability to perform everyday tasks and activities
with greater ease, strength, and mobility. It typically involves movements
that mimic common actions we do in daily life, like lifting, bending,
pushing, pulling and twisting. The goal is to enhance your overall physical
fitness while also helping you move more efficiently and safely in real-life
situations.
Intensity = Mild – (2/5)

Cardio and Conditioning

A Cardio and Conditioning class typically combines aerobic exercise with
strength and endurance training to improve overall fitness. These classes
focus on boosting cardiovascular health by improving the body’s ability
to pump blood and oxygen, improving circulation, enhancing bone
health, weight management, increasing energy levels, and building
muscle strength and tone. Aerobic exercise is also important in
prevention of chronic disease (diabetes, heart disease, respiratory illness
etc.).

Female Fitness

This class is specifically deisgned to support women in their 40s to 60s
who are navigating the changes of menopause and seeking to improve
their bone health, strength and overall wellbeing. Focused on combating
the effects of osteoporosis, hormonal shifts and muscle loss, the class
blends strenght training, functional movement, and mindful exercises to
empower women during this transformative phase in a supportive
environment.
Intensity = Moderate – hard ++ (4/5)

Balance and Mobility

Balance and Mobility classes are designed to help individuals improve their
stability, coordination, flexibility and overall fitness patterns. These classes
can be beneficial for people of all ages and fitness levels, particularly older
adults or anyone looking to improve their independence and feel more
confident on their feet. The focus is on enhancing physical function,
reducing the risk of falls and improving the quality of daily movements.
These classes may involve aspects of yoga, tai chi, pilates, strength training,
falls prevention and functional movement patterns.

Small Group Classes

Our small group classes are targeted towards individuals who would like to
receive specific exercise prescription tailored to their injuries, conditions or
goals in a small group environment. These groups have a maximum of 4
participants and are led by our exercise physiologist. Participants are
required to commit to the program for 6 weeks.
